Casual Works in Adelaide

I become more and more believe in the power of dream and thoughts. One of several things i did before leaving to Adelaide is searching for jobs. Since the spouse visa is allowing me to work, so I definitely should get one of them. I collected all of my network computer things certificates, modified the cv and prepare 1 pair of office outfit (and they are still neatly folded in my suitcase ^-^).

It seemed like i was really ready for a job as the same as i used to do for almost 7 years. But deeply in my heart, i want to feel a new job experience which is something different at all. I have been dreaming having my own farm, producing fresh, good quality organic fruits and vegetables, becoming one of the largest organic farmer in my country. I always aware that each person in this world having a responsibility to create something useful to others, wherever and whenever. Food is the simplest and the very basic thing that we could provide for others and by ensuring the quality of the food, we protect their health which is the added value of our service.

Soon after arrived in Adelaide, i started seeking for a job (which i should have started since i was still in Jakarta). At first, computer network, network administrator, network engineer related are the keywords and found not so many but enough to convince me it wouldn’t be that difficult to get one. I had sent my revised resume to all recruiters available through online service, and it didn’t take very long to get the answer (oh, what a responsive human resource team they were all having). It seems that they got the template from the same sources, which said  “Dear Yulia, thank you for taking the time to apply for a blabla position. We have given careful consideration blabla, however, in this occasion we have identified another more suitable candidate for the position”. Rejections! Oh, i really did not get use to it when i was in Jakarta. Last time, after resigned from one of the biggest bank in Indonesia, I had to refuse job offers from network departments of 2 big banks since i preferred to experince working in the biggest oil company in Indonesia.

After those rejections in computer related things, I tried McDonalds, what?? haha, yes! It didn’t mean that i had given up, i just felt and realized I don’t wanna do all those stuff here. I wanted to do something different, something casual, beside the casual workers here are paid from 2 to 4 times higher than the average professional worker in Indonesia. So why not? But, again, after applied to 10 restaurants near my house (the max limit to applied), got 10 rejection letters in a week! Hahaha, ok, now I’m really getting used to it.

A friend of mine gave some information about working in junk mail service. It was very simple; fill the form in through the internet, the important part is the area where we live since it will become your working area. About a week later, I got call from the area representative who asked me to come to her house to get some informations I need to start the job. And then I got the first job in Australia. I will definitely share things happened during i did the job in another post :).

Have you ever cleaned your house in just about 2 to 4 hours? Honestly, when I was still living with my parents, i only did it separately in separated days. But after my friend introduced me to her client, in order to replace her position as a ‘professional domestic cleaner’, I watched her doing the cleaning and the I knew it can be done quickly and you can be done for more than one house in a day. Oh, my. From twenty-something clients she had at that time, she gave me 7.

But 2 weeks before my first time of new duty, I got call from a tomato farm asking me to come for interview. The interview was just like a checking procedure for all the documents required, and then, I finally, I got a job working in a farm.. just like the thougt that had been always staying on my mind for the last couple of months.. hahaha
